  1. a. Psalm 19:10; Nehemiah 8:3–6, 10; Exodus 24:7; 2 Chronicles 34:27; Isaiah 66:2

    Psalm 19:10

19:10 More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.

19:10 They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold; they are sweeter than honey, than honey from the comb.

    Nehemiah 8:3–6; Nehemiah 8:10

8:3 And he read therein before the street that was before the water gate from the morning until midday, before the men and the women, and those that could understand; and the ears of all the people were attentive unto the book of the law. 8:4 And Ezra the scribe stood upon a pulpit of wood, which they had made for the purpose; and beside him stood Mattithiah, and Shema, and Anaiah, and Urijah, and Hilkiah, and Maaseiah, on his right hand; and on his left hand, Pedaiah, and Mishael, and Malchiah, and Hashum, and Hashbadana, Zechariah, and Meshullam. 8:5 And Ezra opened the book in the sight of all the people; (for he was above all the people;) and when he opened it, all the people stood up: 8:6 And Ezra blessed the Lord, the great God. And all the people answered, Amen, Amen, with lifting up their hands: and they bowed their heads, and worshipped the Lord with their faces to the ground. 8:10 Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our Lord: neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the Lord is your strength.

8:3 So Ezra read it aloud from daybreak until noon as he faced the square before the Water Gate, in front of the men and women and those who could understand. And all the people listened attentively to the Book of the Law. 8:4 Ezra the scribe stood on a high wooden platform built for this occasion. At his right side stood Mattithiah, Shema, Anaiah, Uriah, Hilkiah, and Maaseiah, and at his left were Pedaiah, Mishael, Malchijah, Hashum, Hash-baddanah, Zechariah, and Meshullam. 8:5 Ezra opened the book in full view of all the people, since he was standing above them all, and as he opened it, all the people stood up. 8:6 Then Ezra blessed the LORD, the great God, and with their hands uplifted, all the people said, "Amen, Amen!" Then they bowed down and worshiped the LORD with their faces to the ground. 8:10 Then Nehemiah told them, "Go and eat what is rich, drink what is sweet, and send out portions to those who have nothing prepared, since today is holy to our Lord. Do not grieve, for the joy of the LORD is your strength."

    Exodus 24:7

24:7 And he took the book of the covenant, and read in the audience of the people: and they said, All that the Lord hath said will we do, and be obedient.

24:7 Then he took the Book of the Covenant and read it to the people, who replied, "All that the LORD has spoken we will do, and we will be obedient."

    2 Chronicles 34:27

34:27 Because thine heart was tender, and thou didst humble thyself before God, when thou heardest his words against this place, and against the inhabitants thereof, and humbledst thyself before me, and didst rend thy clothes, and weep before me; I have even heard thee also, saith the Lord.

34:27 because your heart was tender and you humbled yourself before God when you heard His words against this place and against its people, and because you have humbled yourself before Me and you have torn your clothes and wept before Me, I have heard you,' declares the LORD.

    Isaiah 66:2

66:2 For all those things hath mine hand made, and all those things have been, saith the Lord: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word.

66:2 Has not My hand made all these things? And so they came into being," declares the LORD. "This is the one I will esteem: he who is humble and contrite in spirit, who trembles at My word.

  2. b. 2 Peter 1:19–21

    2 Peter 1:19–21

1:19 We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: 1:20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. 1:21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

1:19 We also have the word of the prophets as confirmed beyond doubt. And you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. 1:20 Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture comes from one's own interpretation. 1:21 For no such prophecy was ever brought forth by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

  3. c. Luke 24:45; 2 Corinthians 3:13–16

    Luke 24:45

24:45 Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,

24:45 Then He opened their minds to understand the Scriptures.

    2 Corinthians 3:13–16

3:13 And not as Moses, which put a vail over his face, that the children of Israel could not stedfastly look to the end of that which is abolished: 3:14 But their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same vail untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which vail is done away in Christ. 3:15 But even unto this day, when Moses is read, the vail is upon their heart. 3:16 Nevertheless when it shall turn to the Lord, the vail shall be taken away.

3:13 We are not like Moses, who would put a veil over his face to keep the Israelites from gazing at the end of what was fading away. 3:14 But their minds were closed. For to this day the same veil remains at the reading of the old covenant. It has not been lifted, because only in Christ can it be removed. 3:15 And even to this day when Moses is read, a veil covers their hearts. 3:16 But whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away.

  4. d. Deuteronomy 17:19–20

    Deuteronomy 17:19–20

17:19 And it shall be with him, and he shall read therein all the days of his life: that he may learn to fear the Lord his God, to keep all the words of this law and these statutes, to do them: 17:20 That his heart be not lifted up above his brethren, and that he turn not aside from the commandment, to the right hand, or to the left: to the end that he may prolong his days in his kingdom, he, and his children, in the midst of Israel.

17:19 It is to remain with him, and he is to read from it all the days of his life, so that he may learn to fear the LORD his God by carefully observing all the words of this instruction and these statutes. 17:20 Then his heart will not be exalted above his countrymen, and he will not turn aside from the commandment, to the right or to the left, in order that he and his sons may reign many years over his kingdom in Israel.

  5. e. Acts 17:11

    Acts 17:11

17:11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.

17:11 Now the Bereans were more noble-minded than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if these teachings were true.

    Acts 8:30; Acts 8:34

8:30 And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the prophet Esaias, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest? 8:34 And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom speaketh the prophet this? of himself, or of some other man?

8:30 So Philip ran up and heard the man reading Isaiah the prophet. "Do you understand what you are reading?" Philip asked. 8:34 "Tell me," said the eunuch, "who is the prophet talking about, himself or someone else?"

    Luke 10:26–28

10:26 He said unto him, What is written in the law? how readest thou? 10:27 And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself. 10:28 And he said unto him, Thou hast answered right: this do, and thou shalt live.

10:26 "What is written in the Law?" Jesus replied. "How do you read it?" 10:27 He answered, "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind' and 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'" 10:28 "You have answered correctly," Jesus said. "Do this and you will live."

1:2 But his delight is in the Law of the LORD, and on His law he meditates day and night.

    Psalm 119:97

  8. h. 2 Chronicles 34:21

    2 Chronicles 34:21

34:21 Go, enquire of the Lord for me, and for them that are left in Israel and in Judah, concerning the words of the book that is found: for great is the wrath of the Lord that is poured out upon us, because our fathers have not kept the word of the Lord, to do after all that is written in this book.

34:21 "Go and inquire of the LORD for me and for those remaining in Israel and Judah concerning the words in the book that has been found. For great is the wrath of the LORD that has been poured out on us because our fathers have not kept the word of the LORD by doing all that is written in this book."

    Proverbs 3:5

3:5 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

    3:5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding;

    Deuteronomy 33:3

33:3 Yea, he loved the people; all his saints are in thy hand: and they sat down at thy feet; every one shall receive of thy words.

33:3 Surely You love the people; all the holy ones are in Your hand, and they sit down at Your feet; each receives Your words-

  10. j. Proverbs 2:1–6; Psalm 119:18; Nehemiah 8:6, 8

    Proverbs 2:1–6

2:1 My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee; 2:2 So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding; 2:3 Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding; 2:4 If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures; 2:5 Then shalt thou understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God. 2:6 For the Lord giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.

2:1 My son, if you accept my words and hide my commandments within you, 2:2 if you incline your ear to wisdom and direct your heart to understanding, 2:3 if you truly call out to insight and lift your voice to understanding, 2:4 if you seek it like silver and search it out like hidden treasure, 2:5 then you will discern the fear of the LORD and discover the knowledge of God. 2:6 For the LORD gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding.

    Psalm 119:18

8:6 Then Ezra blessed the LORD, the great God, and with their hands uplifted, all the people said, "Amen, Amen!" Then they bowed down and worshiped the LORD with their faces to the ground. 8:8 So they read from the Book of the Law of God, explaining it and giving insight, so that the people could understand what was being read.
