The Baptist Catechism Set to Music
Benjamin Beddome’s Exposition
Will the wicked rise again?
There shall be a resurrection both of the just and of the unjust,
Will they rise at Christ’s call?
They shall hear his voice and come forth,
Will it be a shameful resurrection to such?
They shall awake to everlasting shame and contempt,
And a dreadful one?
They shall come forth to the resurrection of damnation,
And will the judgment follow?
The Lord cometh to execute judgment,
Is the day of judgment called a great day?
It is that great day of God Almighty,
Will it be a day of discovery?
The Lord will bring to light the hidden things of darkness,
1 Corinthians 4:5
And of conviction?
To convince all that are ungodly,
And of recompence?
He shall recompence tribulation to them that trouble you,
2 Thessalonians 1:6
And of wrath?
The great day of his wrath is come,
Would sinners be glad not to appear on that day?
They will say to the mountains and rocks fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth upon the throne,
But must they appear?
I saw the dead both small and great standing before God,
Will the judgment be public?
He shall call to the heavens from above, and to the earth,
For there is no respect of persons with God,
And very strict?
For God will bring work into judgment,
Will it extend to the thoughts?
For God will judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ,
And to the words?
By thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words, condemned,
And to sins of omission?
I was hungry and you gave me no meat,
And to sins of commission?
For he that doth wrong shall receive for the wrong that he hath done,
Will sentence be immediately passed?
Then shall he say to those on his left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed,
And as speedily executed?
These shall go away into everlasting punishment,
Will hell be the place of the sinner’s torment?
The wicked shall be turned into hell,
And God the inflicter of it?
Upon the wicked he will rain snares, fire and brimstone, an horrible tempest,
And devils their companions in it?
Depart into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels,
And will the body as well as the soul be the subject of it?
The whole body shall be cast into hell,
Will the misery of the damned be unmixed?
The wrath of God is poured out without mixture,
It is wrath to the uttermost,
1 Thessalonians 2:16
Can thine heart endure,
And without end?
The smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever,
Will this be the portion of all the wicked?
For indignation, and wrath, tribulation, and anguish shall be upon every soul that doeth evil,
